Job Description for Principal Network Security Engineer
Role : Principal Network Security Engineer
Experience : 10 + years
Location : Remote
Essential Skills
• Primarily working with Palo Alto Networks; Cisco and Fortinet to a lesser degree
• Provide Tier 4 level technical support and troubleshooting for Palo Alto Networks firewall and
security products, including Cortex, Cortex XDR, Prisma, Prisma Access, and physical/virtual
firewalls
• Act as the subject matter expert for complex network security issues, including firewall
configuration, threat detection and prevention, endpoint security, cloud security, and other
security-related problems
• Collaborate with Tier 3 engineers, network architects, and cross-functional teams to investigate
and resolve critical network security incidents, providing expert guidance and
recommendations
• Develop and implement advanced firewall changes, security policies, and access controls,
following established processes and best practices
• Conduct in-depth analysis of network security events and alerts, identifying potential security
breaches and implementing proactive measures to mitigate risks
• Document troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and configurations accurately and thoroughly in
the ticketing system and knowledge base
• Stay up-to-date on the latest Palo Alto Networks firewall and security technologies, industry
trends, and best practices, and share knowledge with the team
• Provide mentoring and technical leadership to Tier 3 engineers, fostering their professional
growth and development
• Collaborate with clients, team members, and stakeholders to provide timely updates on the
progress and resolution of network security issues
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes, tools, and knowledge base to enhance
efficiency, service quality, and security posture
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field
• At least 1 year of experience in Security Operations or related field
• Strong knowledge of security principles, concepts, and technologies, including firewalls,
intrusion detection/prevention systems, SIEM, and endpoint security
• Familiarity with incident response processes and tools, including log analysis, malware analysis,
and forensic investigations
• Basic understanding of security frameworks and standards, such as NIST, ISO, and CIS
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and in a
team environment
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex security issues to technical
and non-technical stakeholders
